Department of Accounting and Finance

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers holistic, market-driven curricula in Accounting, Taxation, Banking, Insurance and Finance as well as in Entrepreneurship so as to afford the students a competitive edge in the modern business economy.

Ms. Irene Racheal Nabutsale heads the Department. She is a Lecturer, and holds a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance on top of a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, both obtained from Nkumba University.  Additionally, Ms. Nabutsale has training from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda, and holds a Certificate in Navision Financials from Carl Bro East Africa. She has been teaching for nine years, and her scholarly and professional work has solid grounding in research. Prior to employment at Nkumba University, she worked with Mbale District Local Government, and taught at Kumi University. She is a member of both the Audit Committee and the Distance Learning Committee at Nkumba University.


 

Department of Computing and Information Technology

Background

The CIT department started from a very humble beginning as course units offered under business administration. The course units were particularly computer applications offered to all university students, inline with the university policy requirement of computer literacy for all. In 1997, computer related diploma and certificate were started. Later, in 1999, the computer unit was started up in the human resource department. This unit took on computer related courses and later in 2001 it introduced a new degree course. In Sept 2006, the university council upgraded the computer unit into a fully fledged department in School of Business Administration. Since then the Department has registered tremendous growth in the following areas;

·         student numbers,

·         staff numbers,

·         facilities

·         courses on both graduate and undergraduate levels

Planned and Approved Programmes

The senate approved the following various courses offered under the three programmes of the University: Day, Evening and Weekend.

An academic research group has been set up at the department to spear head research and publications.

Students:

Research is conducted at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, at  the end of their studies students have to write dissertations and present to panel of supervisors were they are evaluated and awarded marks.
