REGISTRATION PROCEDURE AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 20TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

This is to inform the Graduating Class of 2017 that the 20th Graduation Ceremony of Nkumba University is scheduled for Saturday 28th October 2017. Students due
to graduate are urged to register for graduation by doing the following:


1) Pay up ALL outstanding fees balances;

2) Fill out the Clearance Form from the Academic Registrar’s office and receive other relevant guidance;

3) Clear with the Male/Female Warden if you are a Day session student;

4) Present examination cards/ permits to the School Administrative Assistant of your respective School to process a copy of your official statement of results;

5) PhD & Masters GRADUATING CLASS to submit final soft copy of abstract and two (02) hard copies of thesis/ dissertation to the Administrative Assistant, School of Postgraduate Studies and Research;

6) Present a draft of the statement of the graded results to the Head of your Department for confirmation of marks awarded;

7) Obtain a signed statement of the graded results and attach it on to the clearance form. Please verify statement for accuracy and have any error(s) corrected at the School. The cost of correcting errors not rectified at School level shall be born by yourself. (check for Date of Birth, Order of names and your results on the provisional transcript;

8) Present library cards to the Librarian for clearance;

9) Present receipts of clearance to the Administrative Assistant (Examinations), for examination malpractice clearance;

10) Confirm presence of a clear photograph or take a fresh one at the Transcripts Office;

11) Present originals of all your Academic documents to the Academic Registrar’s Office/ (Examinations Supervisor) for verification;

12) Submit a copy of the filled in Alumni questionnaire and register with the Administrative Assistant (Alumni) in SCOS building;

13) Pay the following graduation fee as stated below;

i. Certificate 210,000/=
ii. Diploma 230,000/=
iii. Degree 280,000/=
iv. Postgraduate Diploma 290,000/=
v. Masters 300,000/=
vi. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) 330,000/=

The above fees cater for the following items whose costs vary according to the award.

A) Certificate b) Transcript (c) Graduation expenses (d) Hood (e) Mortar Board (f)Graduation Literature (g) Registration for graduation (h) Journal (i) Alumni (j) Advertisement and k) Alumni literature.

14) Obtain a printout of your ledger and attach it on to the form together with all other relevant receipts before submitting the form to the Finance Department who will pass it on to the Academic Registrar’ Office.


All the above should be completed not later than Saturday, 30th September 2017 by 5:00 p.m.
The Graduating Class 2017 is also informed that the 19th Commencement Lecture is scheduled for Wednesday 25th October 2017 at 1.00 p.m. at the Main Campus, Entebbe. The Topic for the day is:.“The dilemma of choice: options that the University student encounters in pursuit of self fulfillment”.

NB: Invitation cards will be issued starting 18th September, 2017 at the Main Campus.

A Message to all Alumni - from the President Alumni Association

Dear fellow Alumni, warm regards from me to you. I write to specifically invite you to an occasion the kind of which we have not had since Nkumba University started in 1994. You are all welcome to Nkumba Day, which will be marked on Saturday September 23, 2017.

This is a day for you and me – all of us Alumni of Nkumba University. Come let us have a re-union, celebrate and support our Alma Mater, Nkumba University.

We shall begin the day with a band-led match from Entebbe Leisure Park in Kitoro, match right through Kitubulu, Abayita-Ababiri, and then into the Main Campus. None of us should miss this match. The match  will commence at 8:00 a.m.

T-shirts and water will be availed to you at a small fee. There will also be a lot of nyama choma and music. It will be a festive occasion.

One of the main activities of the day will be the election of a new Alumni Executive Committee, whose first order of business will be to consider and pass a new Constitution that will govern us as Alumni in the endeavor to support our Alma Mater. As you are aware, membership to the Alumni Association is open to those who attended Nkumba Kindergarten, Primary, Junior Secondary and Nkumba College of Commerce and Advanced Studies. Come all of you. 

Prior to the election of the new Alumni Executive Committee, the Alumni together with the other guests and friends of the University will participate in a fundraising session. One of the fundraising activities will be the auction of various items. You are welcome to donate to the University some items for auction.  

The fundraising endeavor, which will continue even after the day, is intended to raise Ushs. 500 million for the construction of a perimeter fence around the Main Campus. I urge you all to support this endeavor.

I wish to also inform you that vacancies for the August Intake 2017 are still available. Look at the abridged list of programmes in this electronic newsletter or the complete list on the University website. Bring one, two, ten or even more new students to your Alma Mater. Your efforts will be much appreciated.

Finally, I request you to inform everyone that studied at Nkumba – including Nkumba college of Commerce and Advanced Studies – to assemble in re-union for Nkumba Day on September 23, 2017. Come with friends. Come all, let us support Nkumba University.

Nkumba University and Alumni Association to Mark Nkumba Day on September 23, 2017 

Nkumba University together with the University Alumni Association has scheduled Saturday September 23, 2017 to mark Nkumba Day. 

“It will be a day for all Alumni and friends of the University to come together for a re-union, celebrate and support our Alma Mater,” said Hon. Kabuuza Mukasa, President Alumni Association. “A new Alumni Executive committee will also be elected on that day.” 

A number of fundraising activities are planned for the day and are ongoing to raise Ushs. 500 million for the construction of a perimeter fence around the University Main Campus in Entebbe.

A band-led match will commence at 8:00 a.m. from Entebbe Leisure Park in Kitoro prior to the fundraising activities at the University. 

The University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wilson Muyinda Mande, said: “The planned celebrations and activities aren’t of the kind we have engaged in before, and we would be happy to re-unite all the institution’s Alumni – including those who studied in the predecessor College of Commerce and Advanced Studies.”

 

NKUMBA UNIVERSITY
DISTRICT NEEDS BASED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

1.0    Introduction & Objectives 
An overwhelming majority of youth eligible to attend higher education institutions in Uganda is from poor and deprived families. In addition to this there are inequitable opportunities for Higher Education in Uganda that would enable this group to continue with their studies. In addition to this, the financial need for higher education is, perhaps, a remarkable actor to make the bright and studious students to leave their studies uncompleted or, even worse, not to get admission at all in the institution of their choice. Nkumba University is responding to this challenge by introducing need based scholarships to eligible students in Uganda.
 
The scholarship will enable 5 needy young people from each of Uganda’s districts to pursue their undergraduate education at Nkumba University.
 
The objective is to provide equal opportunity for the talented students who are disadvantaged and are incapable of meeting part of the cost of their higher education at Nkumba University. This program will help in increasing the University’s enrollment as well as provide training and learning opportunities for disadvantaged students who will as a result have better job and business opportunities after completing their education.


2.0    Eligibility Criteria 
1.    Financial assistance & scholarships are available for study at undergraduate level in the following prescribed disciplines at both Nkumba University Main Campus and Kampala Campus:
-    Bachelor of Business Administration
-    Bachelor of Procurement & Logistics Management
-    Bachelor of Information Technology
-    Bachelor of Public Administration & Management
-    Bachelor of Law
-    Bachelor of Social Works and Social Administration
-    Bachelor of International Relations and Diplomacy
-    Bachelor of Development Studies
-    Bachelor of Science in Journalism
-    Bachelor of Arts with Education
-    Bachelor of Petroleum Management
-    Bachelor of Tourism Management
-    Bachelor of Hotel Management and Institutional Catering
2.    Students need to have secured admission in the approved disciplines at Nkumba University before applying for the scholarship.
3.    Only those students who have completed A-Level in the last three years prior to the application are eligible to apply.
4.    The eligibility of a candidate is linked to neediness of the candidate as determined and assessed by their area LC 1 and LC 3 Chairpersons.

3.0    How to Apply
1.    The eligible students can get a Scholarship Application Form from the
2.    Academic Registrar’s office or at their respective District Education and/or Municipality Offices. The application form can also be downloaded from the University’s website.
3.    The Scholarship Form is supposed to be submitted along with supporting documents only at the District Education and/or Municipality office after endorsements by their respective LC 1 and LC 3 Chairpersons.
4.    Candidates are required to first get admission in any one of the above approved disciplines at Nkumba University.
5.    All Districts and Municipalities of Uganda are included in this initiative.

4.0    Amount of Financial Support
The program will support the eligible students at Nkumba University by paying 600,000/= of tuition fee per year during the entire period of study.

5.0    Terms and Conditions
1.    Application forms are available from the Academic Registrar’s Office, the District Education office, Municipality Education Office and can also be downloaded from the University website.
2.    The submitted application and supporting documents of the potential candidate shall be reviewed by the District Education Service Committee with a representative of Nkumba University present.
3.    The recommended cases shall be presented to the University Scholarship Management Committee (SMC) for a thorough review and final approval.
4.    The scholarship recipients shall be informed of the University’s decision by the Academic Registrar.

B.    Caution:
Providing false information may result in one or all of the following actions by Nkumba University against you:
1.    Cancellation of your admission to the University
2.    Expulsion from the University
3.    Disqualification for award of any future scholarships
4.    Refund of all payments of the scholarship received
5.    Initiation of criminal proceedings
6.    Students must be admitted to Nkumba University to be considered for this scholarship.
