Library

Welcome to Nkumba University Library. Physically, the Library is situated near the entrance to the main Nkumba University. There is also a branch at Kampala Campus. Digitally, the Library can be accessed on the Nkumba University Website. Nkumba University Library provides services to students, staff, and other researchers. In this role, the library has both electronic and hard copies of books, journals, and other information resources. It also serves as an institutional repository where publications from Nkumba University staff and student  can be accessed from. All these help to keep students and staff informed of current and past events. , the Library was named Mpanga Library.

Vision

The vision of Nkumba University Library is to provide access to the world’s knowledge in order to promote and support the teaching, learning, and research activities of the University and the community.

Objectives

  • To develop, maintain and promote the library as an inviting, comfortable place where the University community reads, studies, conducts research, and participates in educational and cultural activities and programs.
  • To develop, maintain and promote high-quality print and electronic collections that are readily accessible.
  • To develop, maintain, and promote user-centered services that anticipate and respond to the needs of the University.
  • To maintain and promote a well-supported staff with the education, skills tools, and resources needed to promote the best services.
  • To develop, maintain, and promote learning and research partnerships within and beyond the University community.
  • To expand access to electronic materials through consortia and local agreements.
  • To develop the library website to improve access to digital resources from both within and outside the library.
  • To provide information literacy training to library users to encourage self-help, independent learning, and knowledge discovery.

Collaboration

The Library is a member of the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) and the Uganda Libraries and Information Association (ULIA). It has partnership with the FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Austria and the University of Cagliari in Italy. These collaborations serve to enhance Library services provision.

Library Resources

Currently, the Library has 22,850 volumes of books and approximately 6000 periodicals. These resources can be located with the help of an online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The Library has E-journals, E-books, and E-databases (E-Resources) which are available in all disciplines to students and staff at any time. Most of these can be accessed from a single interface MyLOFT, but users must be registered with the library. In addition, internet facilities are freely accessed for both research and communication purposes. The Library offers quiet study spaces, computer facilities, and support services to assist students with research and learning. The Library is being improved and developed every year to meet the varied needs of students.
