Bachelor Of Commercial Art

This programme has been designed for those aspiring to be proficient designers with the highest level of creative identity. A wide opportunity is available in the use of varied material range including; metal, cement, clay, wood, paint media and digital media. This programme has compulsory course units and electives. Study field tours are incorporated in all electives. A total credit load of 134 is required for one to graduate. The programme structure is as shown below.

 

Career Path

Here are some career path options for graduates:

  1. Graphic Designer: Graphic designers create visual concepts using computer software or by hand to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. They design layouts, logos, and other branding materials for businesses, organizations, and individuals.
  2. Art Director: Art directors are responsible for the visual style and images in magazines, newspapers, product packaging, and movie and television productions. They create the overall look of a project and direct others who develop artwork or layouts.
  3. Animator: Animators create visual effects and animations for television shows, movies, and video games. They use computer software to create characters, backgrounds, and special effects that move and interact with each other.
  4. Advertising and Promotions Manager: Advertising and promotions managers oversee promotional activities and campaigns, including advertising, public relations, and sales. They work for businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
  5. Creative Director: Creative directors oversee the creative process for marketing campaigns and branding projects. They are responsible for managing a team of designers and copywriters to create engaging marketing materials.
  6. Multimedia Artist: Multimedia artists create animations, special effects, and other visual images for movies, television shows, video games, and other media. They work with computer software to create 3D models, visual effects, and other graphics.

These are just a few of the many career paths that individuals with a Bachelor of Commercial Art can pursue. Graduates can also consider pursuing further education, such as a Master’s degree, to advance their careers and specialize in a particular area of commercial art.

Entry Requirements

Direct Entry Scheme

At least 5 passes at Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent;

At least 2 principal passes at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.

 

Diploma holders

  1. Hold a Credit or Second-Class Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized institution as determined by the University Senate.
  2. At least a Pass (50%) in Mature Entry Examinations.

 

Mature age Entry

  1. The applicant should be 25 years of age and above;
  2. Must have passed mature age entry examinations organized by the National Council for Higher Education.
