This programme has been designed for people who are interested in becoming Archivists and Records Managers who intend to work either in government or non government organizations. This is a two years programme and its structure is shown below.

Here are some key topics and skills that are typically covered in a Diploma in Records and Information Management program:

  1. Records Management Principles: Students learn the principles of records management, including how to classify, store, retrieve, and dispose of records.
  2. Information Governance: Students learn about the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern information management, including privacy laws, freedom of information laws, and copyright laws.
  3. Information Security: Students learn about information security policies and procedures, including how to safeguard electronic and physical records from unauthorized access, theft, or damage.
  4. Electronic Records Management: Students learn about the management of electronic records, including the design and implementation of electronic record-keeping systems.
  5. Metadata Management: Students learn about metadata standards and best practices for metadata creation, capture, and maintenance.
  6. Business Analysis: Students learn how to conduct business analysis to identify information needs and requirements for organizations.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants for Diploma programmes should hold:
  1. A Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with a minimum of 5 passes obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.
  2. Uganda Advanced Level Certificate (UACE) with at least one Principal Pass, and 2 subsidiary passes obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.
    Or 
  3. A certificate obtained after 2 years of post UCE study from a recognized institution;
    Or
  4. Any equivalent Certificate besides UCE and UACE from a recognized institution.
