Prof. Johnson Mbabazi is a distinguished public health scholar, researcher, author, and educator with an international reputation in public health, health promotion, epidemiology, and evidence-based practice.
He has authored several books on clinical medicine and public health, including Leukaemia and Solutions to Clinical Medical Challenges. His scholarly contributions have earned him widespread recognition, including more than 70 international author awards, the Lifetime International Author Award (2023), the International Articles Award (2024), and the Asia Research Award in Public Health (2024).
As a keynote speaker, Professor Mbabazi has presented at major international public health conferences across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH), a Fellow of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, a Fellow of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He also co-founded the Teesside University Health Students Research Network (TUHSRN), demonstrating his commitment to advancing research capacity and mentoring the next generation of health professionals.
His research focuses on physical Science, mental health, health inequalities, and the social determinants of health, with particular emphasis on Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
As he joins Nkumba University, Professor Johnson Mbabazi brings extensive international academic experience, a distinguished record of research excellence, and a passion for advancing public health scholarship, innovation, and evidence-based teaching. His appointment is expected to strengthen the University’s research profile, postgraduate training, and global academic collaborations.
