Dr. Hilda Mpirirwe is a distinguished academic, researcher, and information systems specialist with extensive experience in higher education, research, and ICT innovation. She holds a PhD from Makerere University’s College of Computing and Information Sciences and has a strong passion for Information Systems and emerging technologies.
She was appointed Dean School of Business Administration at Nkumba University on 1st June, 2026. Prior to this appointment, she dedicated over 18 years to YMCA Comprehensive Institute, where she served both as a Lecturer and Head of the Computer Science Department.
Dr. Mpirirwe has participated in several research projects funded by the Government of Uganda through the Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund (Mak-RIF). She has also actively engaged in research activities, grant proposal development, and project implementation at both local and international levels through her work with 8Tech Consults.
Her expertise spans ICT management, information systems development, and e-learning technologies, with a particular interest in e-learning assessment systems. Over the years, she has undertaken and supervised numerous research projects in these fields.
Dr. Mpirirwe has made significant contributions to curriculum development in higher education. She participated in the design and development of the Master of Information Technology (MIT) and Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) programmes, both of which received accreditation from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
She has also played a key role in the development of several innovative information systems, including loan management systems, a multi-factor authentication e-assessment system, an ecosystem for monitoring remote workers, and the My Clean City App, among others.
In addition to her academic and research accomplishments, Dr. Mpirirwe has undertaken numerous professional training programmes and earned certifications in Research Methods, Scientific Writing, the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL), and Cybersecurity.
Her research interests include authentication and security in e-learning systems, information systems management, health information systems, ICT for Development (including e-Governance and e-Health), mobile learning, mobile computing, human-computer interaction, and web-based systems.
Dr. Mpirirwe has presented scholarly papers at both national and international conferences and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, contributing significantly to the advancement of knowledge in computing and information systems.
